Announcing Victorias newest music festival, the first annual Victoria Djangofest. Some of north Americas finest acoustic jazz musicians will come together for an evening of music inspired by the greatest gypsy jazz guitar player of all time, Django Reinhardt. Arguably Canada’s greatest jazz violinist, Daniel Lapp will be featured with Caravan and Gypsy Jazz guitar legend Marc Atkinson and his trio will headline this star-studded show along with performances by Rueben Weir and the Red Hot Swing Set, Chris Sartisohn, Oliver Swain, Al Pease and fifteen year old guitar prodigy, Quinn Bachand. Victoria has long been a hot bed of gypsy swing but inaugural festival brought to you by the Oliver Swain, Artistic Director with FolkWest, is the first time all these great players will be together on one bill. Inspired by the cafes and cabarets of Paris from the 1920′s to the 1940′s, Victorias Upstairs Cabaret will be the transformed into a swinging Hot Club on February 4th, complete with raised cabaret seating and sunken dance floor where a swing dance tutorial will be offered prior to the show at 6:30 by David and Tina Lee.
